Triple Superphosphate (TSP)
TSP 0-46-0 from China — a nitrogen-free concentrated phosphate fertilizer, granulated or powdered, for direct application, blending and phosphate-deficient soils.
0-46-0 Ca(H2PO4)2 Granule or powder
Available on enquiry — supply confirmed per order
Triple superphosphate carries phosphate and nothing else. At 44–46% available P2O5 with no nitrogen and no potassium, it is the product a buyer specifies when the phosphate has to be added without disturbing an nitrogen or potash balance that is already set.
It is manufactured by attacking phosphate rock with phosphoric acid, which is why its price tracks the phosphoric acid and rock markets rather than the ammonia market. That difference matters in a period when nitrogen and phosphate are moving in opposite directions: TSP isolates the phosphate exposure.
TSP contains calcium and a small amount of sulphur, and it is fully available in the season of application. It is supplied granulated for blending, or as powder for local compounders who granulate it themselves.
Specification
The table below gives the nominal analysis and the parameters that a buyer should write into the contract. Values that depend on the production lot are not printed as numbers here, because a number on a website is not a guarantee — the lot COA is.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Available P2O5 | 44–46% Typical export grade; guaranteed figure per lot |
| Water-soluble P2O5 | 85% min of available P2O5 Typical; confirmed per lot |
| Free acid (as P2O5) | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Moisture | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Granule size 2–4 mm | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Calcium (CaO) | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Sulphur (S) | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
Typical values describe the grade as it is normally traded. The guaranteed analysis for your order is the one stated on the certificate of analysis issued for the production lot, and it is confirmed in the sales contract before shipment.
Applications
- Direct application on phosphate-deficient soils
- Blending where no additional nitrogen is wanted
- Compound fertilizer manufacture
- Pasture and legume establishment
Why this product, and not the one next to it
Phosphate without nitrogen
Where the nitrogen budget is already met by urea or ammonium sulfate, TSP adds P2O5 without pushing nitrogen past the target.
Priced off rock and acid
TSP does not carry the ammonia cost that MAP and DAP do, so it behaves differently when nitrogen and phosphate markets diverge.
Available in the application season
The phosphate is in a form the plant can take up in the season it is applied, which suits top-dressing and pasture programmes.
Packaging options
- 50 kg PP woven bags with PE liner
- 1000 kg jumbo bags (FIBC)
- Bulk in vessel, for full cargoes
Loading quantity depends on packaging, container type and the weight limit of the destination country. It is confirmed per order. The bag type, bag weight, liner and marks are stated on the quotation so that two offers can be compared on the same basis.
Quality documentation
- Certificate of analysis for the production lot
- Technical data sheet
- Material safety data sheet
- Packing list and commercial invoice
- Certificate of origin
Documents are issued on a per-shipment basis. Certification availability is confirmed for each order before contract.
Export considerations
TSP is fertilizer grade and is not classified as dangerous goods.
The free acid content is the handling parameter that matters: excessively acidic material corrodes mild steel and damages bag liners, so the lot COA is checked against the agreed limit before loading.
Chinese export inspection and licensing requirements are confirmed per order at the time of shipment.
Export regulations and import requirements can change. This is a general overview written for buyers, not a substitute for confirming current requirements with your customs broker and with our export team before you commit to a shipment.
Questions buyers ask about TSP
What is the difference between TSP and SSP?
Concentration. TSP carries roughly 44–46% available P2O5 and no sulphur worth counting; SSP carries 16–20% P2O5 together with 11–12% sulphur and a large amount of calcium sulfate. TSP is cheaper to ship per unit of phosphate; SSP is chosen where sulphur is also wanted or where local manufacturing favours it.
Is TSP granulated or powdered?
Both are traded. Granulated TSP is what a blending plant wants because it matches the particle size of urea and potash. Powder is bought by compounders who will granulate it themselves, and it is cheaper per tonne.
Does TSP contain nitrogen?
No. That is its commercial point. A 0-46-0 analysis means the product contributes phosphate and calcium only, so it can be added to a programme without moving the nitrogen figure.
